Hub City Farmers' Market -Rick Childers on
the Wade’s Community Stage

Northside Harvest Park 498 Howard St Spartanburg, SC  29303

Rick Childers has performed oldies from the 50s, 60s, & 70s around Spartanburg for the past few years. Entertaining the young and old at Spartanburg’s Spring Fling on the Wall Street Buskers stage for three years. . This is his first year performing at the Hub City Farmers Market and received very positive commits from the vendors and guest after performing on the Wades Community Stage in March of last yr. Having a very strong background in gospel music it’s not uncommon at all to hear a few ol’ gospel tunes peppered into his performance as well.

Northside Harvest Park is home to The Butterfly Foundation, the Monarch Cafe and Fresh Food Store, Hub City Farmers’ Market’s Saturday Market, and HCFM’s Urban Farm. Harvest Park grew from an idea that a community working together could fight food disparities in Spartanburg.

The facility springs from the effort of many, many partners: local, regional, and national, all with the idea of creating a “farm to fork” opportunity in a food desert. More than 3 years in the making, Harvest Park offers Northside residents a chance to buy healthy produce within walking distance for the first time in more than a generation.    http://hubcityfm.org/harvest-park/

The support of South Carolina coastal residents is needed more than ever to raise awareness and educate our visitors to Keep Light’s Out for Loggerheads. The loggerhead (Caretta caretta) sea turtle nesting season is May through October. Nesting occurs on the beaches of South Carolina’s barrier islands.

Loggerheads are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act and are protected by federal and state laws. The loggerhead nesting population in the southeastern United States is continuing to decline and it has been recommended that this species be reclassified from threatened to endangered.

If a sea turtle hatchling is disoriented by artificial light, the maximum federal fine for harming a threatened species is $25,000. County and local lighting ordinances exist to protect sea turtles. To see a list of lighting ordinances in South Carolina, please visit: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/seaturtle/volres/ordinances.pdf
Violating local or county lighting ordinances carry fines up to $500.
