They were Soldiers in the US Military. They gave their all to protect us. Now Equine Rescue of Aiken is giving back so they are not forgotten. The special Saratoga WarHorse program helps to rebuild them one by one with the help of our horses and facilities.  For those struggling with PTSD, This confidential, peer-to-peer and equine-based program is free to qualifying veterans.

Saratoga WarHorse pairs Veterans with off the track Thoroughbreds, provided by Aiken Equine Rescue to use in their Program, for a life altering experience. The focus is communicating in the horses' own language,  creating a trusting relationship with the horse and emotionally empowering the Veteran. The Aiken Community in all walks of life, including the Horse Community, welcome these Veterans into Aiken and thank them for their service. - See more at: http://www.aikenequinerescue.com/SWH_Program.html#sthash.rJnp75hI.dpuf

We have depleted our endowments and can no longer survive with the lack of community support.

We can’t fully express our deepest gratitude for your support. Working with the residents and community of Pickens County has been nothing but an absolute pleasure. We have taken in so many animals and found so many forever homes. We have laughed and cried, been happy and sad in our time here at the shelter. Our last effective day of business will be December 31, 2017. Adopt one of  our loving pets

Lights Out for Loggerhead Turtles
Charleston Area Beaches Isle of Palms SC

The support of South Carolina coastal residents is needed more than ever to raise awareness and educate our visitors to Keep Light’s Out for Loggerheads. The loggerhead (Caretta caretta) sea turtle nesting season is May through October. Nesting occurs on the beaches of South Carolina’s barrier islands.

Loggerheads are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act and are protected by federal and state laws. The loggerhead nesting population in the southeastern United States is continuing to decline and it has been recommended that this species be reclassified from threatened to endangered.

If a sea turtle hatchling is disoriented by artificial light, the maximum federal fine for harming a threatened species is $25,000. County and local lighting ordinances exist to protect sea turtles. To see a list of lighting ordinances in South Carolina, please visit: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/seaturtle/volres/ordinances.pdf
Violating local or county lighting ordinances carry fines up to $500.
